Mueller ‘The Man’ in Sprints – Kressley Tops 358’s, AGAIN!

BRIDGEPORT, NEW JERSEY (July 7, 2006) – Ringoes, NJ’s Jeff Mueller led his #3J Limited Sprint Car to victory in the 20 lap feature event, becoming the fourth different division winner in just as many races.  Brian Kressley of Orefield, PA, picked up his second consecutive victory and the $1200 payday in the 358 Small Block event.

“The track was in excellent shape tonight,”  Mueller announced in Victory Lane Ceremonies.  “I really enjoy racing with the guys in this division, but it was good to pull away and not have to.

Mueller pulled away right from the get-go in the 20 lap, caution free event – starting second on the grid next to pole sitter Torrey Rose.  Mueller passed Rose exiting turn four to lead the first lap, and never looked back.  Mueller set the cruise and rode right on around on the cushion of the 5/8th mile, and was never challenged in the event.  Dave Brown finished in second followed by Brian Powell, Doug Smith and Tim Iulg.  Jim Wyers, who had finished in the third position, was disqualified for failure to report to the scales after the event.

Brian Kressley drove around the outside of “The Thrill” Jesse Hill with two laps remaining to capture the victory in the 358 Small Block feature event.  Hill grabbed the lead on the fourth lap after a hard battle with #4x4 of Matt Jester.  The field was regrouped after a mid-race caution with Hill continuing to lead, Kressley powered around the outside battling for almost 4 laps door-to-door with the 19 year old, Barnsboro, NJ native.  It would be Kressley pulling almost a full straight-a-way at the checkered flag.  Hill would settle for second position with Richie Pratt Jr. coming home in third followed by Matt Jester and Dan Cogdill.

Media, PA young hot shoe Bill Thomas picked up the victory in the 20 lap 600cc Micro Sprint event, and the $500 top prize presented by JR Michalski Heating and Air Conditioning.  Thomas, who started second in the event grabbed the lead from pole sitter Rob Vivona, as the two put on a fierce battle for the number one spot.  Lapped traffic helped Thomas get passed the early leader and go on for the victory, becoming the first repeat winner of the season.  Vivona came home in second, followed by Sam Casella, Stewart Carmichael and Nick Schlauch.

John Copeland captured the win in the 270cc Micro Sprint event, and another $500 top prize posted by JR Michalski Heating and Air Conditioning.  Jeff Hartman led the early stages of the event, however, bad luck once again prevailed over Hartman’s #026 as he retired early with mechanical problems.  Charlie Lamanna led for two circuits before Copeland would power past for the lead, and go on for the victory.  Jay Hartman came home in second followed by Steve Gaspari, Charlie Lamanna and DJ Wykes.

Ian Wray was the winner of the 20 lap 4 Cylinder Stock Car Feature event.  Wray snuck past early leader, Terry Sammons on the 18th circuit and went to pick up the victory.  Warren Stradley rolled home in second followed by Sammons, Ken Wallace and Mike Hughes.

For more information or to participate in the event contact the speedway office at 856-467-4408 or visit the Bridgeport Speedway website at www.thenewbridgeportspeedway.com.

Kressley’s Battles Back Strong; Iulg Dominates Sprints

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (June 30, 2006) – It was ultra-fast action with few cautions as the Limited Sprints and 358 Small Blocks took to the 5/8th mile clay oval this past Friday Night.  Orefield, PA’s Brian Kressley dominated the 358 Small Block event while Tim Iulg of Bridgeton, NJ performed a similar feat in the Limited Sprint Division.

Kressley kicked off the 25 lap 358 Small Block event from the pole and pulled away right from the get-go, with Dan Cogdill and Eric Kormann battling for the second position.  The man of the moment would be Richie Pratt Jr. as he fought past Kormann and Cogdill on the sixth circuit to overtake the second position, on a rail Pratt would catch up to Kressley but wouldn’t have the opportunity to challenge the leader.  It would be smooth sailing for Kressley as he took the checkered flag and the $1200 top prize.  Pratt would roll home second, followed by Eric Kormann, Ron Roberts and Jimmy Horton IV.

Bridgeton, NJ’s Tim Iulg dominated the Limited Sprint event putting on a fierce battle with Mares Stellfox for the majority of the event.  Launching from the pole position Iulg set a rapid pace right from the start, with Stellfox right on his bumper from the third starting spot.  Iulg settled in and claimed his first victory of the 2006 season, Stellfox settled for second followed by rookie sensation Chuck Palmucci, Jonathan Swanson – who set the fast lap of the night with an average speed of 110 mph, and Frank Polimeda rounding out the top five.

Churchville, PA’s young hot shoe, Nick Schlauch picked up the victory in the 600cc Micro Sprint.  Schlauch captured the lead from early race leader, Eddie Wagner, on the seventh lap of the 20 lap feature event.  Schlauch held off a strong late race charge from Sam Casella who charged from mid pack.  Casella came home in second, Matt Esham in third, Bill Thomas in fourth and Jimmy Cammock rounding out the top five.

John Copeland picked up the victory in the 270cc Micro Sprint feature event.  Copeland put on a hard battle with Jeff Hartman, before Hartman spun his #026 machine while racing with lapped traffic.  Copeland powered away from second place runner Spencer Kelly on the restart and never looked back capturing the victory.  Kelly would come home second followed by Jimmy Carpenter, Steve Gaspari and Luke Fogg.

Brian Crisman captured the 20 lap 4 Cylinder Stock Car feature event after slipping past Terry Sammons with five laps remaining in the event.  Despite a hard charge from the back of the pack from Dave Damiano, who powered from the tenth starting position, Crisman’s front wheel drive Volkswagen picked up the victory.  Ian Wray came home in second position followed by: Warren Stradley, Ken Wallace and Dave Damiano.

The Bridgeport Speedway holds almost 60 races a year between the months of April and November, and is located in Southern New Jersey just minutes from Delaware and Pennsylvania -- Exit 14 off I-295.  For more information visit the speedway website www.thenewbridgeportspeedway.com or contact the information hotline at 856.467.4407

Brobst, Buckwalter and Bentley Blast to National Victories at Bridgeport Speedway

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (June 18, 2006) – Middletown, DE’s Eric Brobst put on a thrilling show, in the 30 lap 600cc Micro Sprint Feature event, battling from the 16th starting position – and Royersford, PA’s Steve Buckwalter led his Stallard Chassis #25 machine in the 30 lap 270cc Micro Sprint event as both picked up a cool $1000 top prize and Dave Bentley Sr picked up the win in the 25 lap 4 Cylinder Stock Car feature event.

Fast timer Chad Clark led the early stages of the 600cc Micro Sprint feature event battling with teammate Eric Vent for the early stages of the 30 lap feature event, with Bridgeport favorite Sam Casella close on their back bumpers.  With Vent slipping past Clark at the lap 10 mark, it would be much of a battle as Clark retired his machine just two circuits later.  The restart opened the door for Eric Brobst who, at this point, had gained 13 positions moving behind, now runner-up, Casella.  When Brobst battled past Casella on the lap 23 mark, it wouldn’t be long before he challenged Vent for the number one spot; and he overtook the lead just one lap later, holding his foot to the floor for the remaining seven circuits and capturing the win.  Vent would settle for second, followed by Casella, Jack Spence – who battled from the B-main and a 22nd place starting position, and Friday Night winner George Ulmer.

Bridgeport Speedway regular and Sinking Springs, PA native, Steve Gaspari, couldn’t have asked for a better weekend.  After setting fast time for the day and picking up an additional $100 in the Dash for Cash, Gaspari dominated the opening portion of the 30 lap 270cc event – with a comfortable lead over Jay Hartman.  However, a lap 23 restart gave the Steve Buckwalter the opportunity to capitalize as the ‘Royersford Rocket’ blasted past both Hartman and Gaspari rolling on to the $1000 top prize.  Gaspari rode home second followed by Joe Fink, Jim Tippin and young hotshoe Ryan Stillwagon.

Dave Bentley started on the pole in the 4 Cylinder Stock car feature event and dominated leading each of the 25 laps.  Bentley held off a strong mid-race charge from Friday Night feature winner, Dave Damiano.  However, Damiano just didn’t have enough to pick up his second feature event victory.  Bentley grabbed the win followed by Jim Hughes, who rolled past Damiano in the late stages, Jeff Walls rolled home in fourth and Ken Wallace rounded out the top five.

Kressley’s Misfortune Leads to Pratt’s 358 Win – Powell Dominates Sprints Friday at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (June 17, 2006) When the checkered flag flew after the 30 lap 358 Small Block feature event Brian Kressley’s #19B sat in Victory Lane, however it wasn’t there long.  During post race technical inspection the Kressley Auto & Truck Repair #19 was deemed illegal and the win was handed over to second place finisher Richie Pratt Jr.

Ryan Taylor’s RT Graphics #20 led the way to the green flag with Brian Kressley charging hard from the third position.  Kressley challenged Taylor and snuck around the outside on the sixth lap.  While Kressley pulled away, a seven car battle for the runner-up spot brewed with Taylor and Eric Kormann leading the way.  The battle heated up, Taylor pulled Kormann and held on to the second position, setting the cruise control.  A scary moment on lap 27 when Taylor’s machine shot straight into the backstretch wall, all involved were uninjured.  Kressley returned to dominance with 3 to go, followed by Pratt and Jesse Hill.  Kressley would appear to take the victory, but it would be handed to Pratt after post-race technical inspection.  Hill would come home in second, followed by Drew Ricco, Jimmy Horton IV and Eric Kormann.

Brian Powell dominated the 20 lap Limited Sprint feature event.  Powell launched from the pole position with Rookie Sprint driver Chuck Palmucci.  A mid-race restart gave defending champion, Jim Wyers, the opportunity to sneak past the rookie Palmucci, overtaking the second place position.  Powell would easily roll on to capture the victory, followed by Wyers and Palmucci.  Andrew Weldon brought the Shaffer Motorsports #76 home in the fourth position followed by Jonathan Swanson.

George Ulmer captured the victory in the 600cc Micro Sprint feature event – A slew of early race cautions held off the start of the event, but it was all Ulmer once it kicked off, with Bill Thomas maintaining the second position for the majority of the event.  A lap 15 caution gave young campaigner Nick Schlauch the opportunity to overtake Thomas for the second position and a green, white checkered finish gave Schlauch one last chance to capture the win.  However, he was no challenge for Ulmer, who pulled away on the restart and grabbed the victory.  Schlauch settled for second followed by Stewart Carmichael, Robbie Stillwagon and Bill Thomas.

Mike King dominated the 270cc Micro Sprint feature event leading all of the 20 laps, Spencer Kelly caught a great view of the leader’s back bumper as he remained runner-up for the entire event.  Steve Gaspari, John Copeland and Shaun Ratchford rounded out the top five.

Dave Damiano picked up his first victory ever in the 20 lap 4 Cylinder Stock Car main event.  Damiano snuck underneath race leader Mike Hughes exiting turn four.  The two had a drag race down the front stretch with Damiano edging Hughes out by inches.  Hughes settled for second followed by Warren Stradley, Jim Hughes and Brian Crisman.

The Bridgeport Speedway holds almost almost 60 races a year between the months of April and November, and is located in Southern New Jersey just minutes from Delaware and Pennsylvania -- Exit 14 off I-295.  For more information visit the speedway website www.thenewbridgeportspeedway.com or contact the information hotline at 856.467.4407

Carpenter, Hartman and Wray Capture 1/4 Mile Bridgeport Action

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (June 2, 2006) – With rain falling in all surrounding areas, Mother Nature left just enough time to complete 1/4 mile action before heavy downpours cancelled the schedule of events on the 5/8 mile speedway, this past Friday Night at the Bridgeport Speedway.

Manchester, NJ’s Jimmy Carpenter dominated the 600cc Micro Sprint feature event leading all of the 20-laps.  Carpenter started on the pole in the event, and held off a hard charging Bob DeVault on a lap 13 restart.  DeVault settled for second followed by Jack Conover, Stewart Carmichael and Sam Casella.

Jay Hartman overtook race leader Shaun Ratchford with two circuits remaining in the 20 lap 270cc Micro Sprint feature event and picked up the feature win.  John Blanda led the early stages of the event before Ratchford powered past, and into the number one spot.  However it was the hard charging Hartman that would pick up the victory, Ratchford would settle for second followed by Jeff Hartman, young racer Matt Harrell and Spencer Kelly.

Ian Wray was the victor of the 4 Cylinder Stock Car event.  Fred Martin led the early stages of the event before Wray made a bold outside pass to overtake, polesitter, Martin.  Terry Sammons came home in second followed by Mike Hughes, Fred Martin settled for the fourth position and Ken Wallace rounded out the top five.

Rain began falling immediately following the 4 Cylinder feature event and the 5/8 mile speedway event was cancelled.

Grandstand wristband may be utilized as rainchecks for the next three Friday Night events, the same policy will be applied to the 5/8th mile pit area.

Casella and Harrell Take Bridgeport Micro Victories, Stradley Tops 4 Cylinders

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (May 21, 2006) Hot and heavy action on the 1/4 mile Bridgeport Speedway gave one youngster his first win ever, and two veterans their first of the season; in an exciting Friday Night racing event.

Despite starting in the front row it was no easy task for Sam Casella to pick up his first victory of the 2006 racing season.  Casella launched from his second starting position straight to the front on the opening circuit of the 20-lap 600cc Micro Sprint feature event, with third place starter, Jack Conover and fourth place starter Gary Hunter right on his rear bumper. Casella set the cruise control and would go on to pick up the victory edging second place finisher Jack Conover by a wheel at the line.  Nick Schlauch came home in second position followed by Stewart Carmichael and Gary Hunter.

Matt Harrell, the fourteen year old hotshoe out of Elmer, NJ captured the 270cc Micro Sprint feature event.  Harrell inherited the top spot when early leader Spencer Kelly was sidelined on the fifth lap of the event.  Harrell dominated the remainder of the event holding a sizeable advantage over second place runner, Steve Gaspari, when the checkered flag flew.  Shaun Ratchford came home in third followed at the line by Ryan Stillwagon and Don Matney.

Stief Steals 600 Win, Hartman and Hartman Take 270’s and 4-Cylinders

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (May 12, 2006) – It was Lester, PA native Rick Stief who made a bold last lap, last turn move on then leader Stewart Carmichael to pick up his first victory of the 2006 racing season.

“The track was great tonight,” Stief explained in Victory Lane.  “We finally got something that I can get a handle of.”

Handle it, is exactly what he did.  Stief launched from the eleventh starting position to show fourth by lap four.  It would only be a matter of time before Stief would set his sights on early leader Stewart Carmichael, but that would be no easy task.  Young hotshoe Robbie Stillwagon was right on Stief’s rear bumper waiting for the veteran racer to hopefully make a mistake, but Stief was flawless and so was Carmichael.  The two battled back and forth with Carmichael continuing with the advantage.  Stief had one last chance to make his move and boy did he, sliding past Carmichael exiting turn four a drag race ensued down the front stretch to take the checkered flag. Stief would pick up the win with Carmichael settling for second, Robbie Stillwagon coming home third, Jack Conover in fourth and Nick Schlauch rounding out the top five.

Jay Hartman was dominant in the 270cc Micro Sprint feature event.  Battling from mid-way through the pack, Hartman picked up five positions in the initial circuit around the 1/4 mile clay oval.  Eyeing the top prize, Hartman battled past second place runner, 14-year-old driver Matt Harrell, and sliced and diced with then leader John Copeland.  Copeland, who has been ultra-fast in each of the 270cc events run couldn’t muster enough to withhold the challenge from Jay Hartman.  Hartman would grab the win, followed by Copeland.  A pair of younger generation drivers would sit in third and fourth with Jesse Harper and Matt Harrell and Joe Kay rounding out the top five.

Bob Hartman led every lap of the 4-Cylinder Stock Car feature event, despite late race charges from Terry Sammons and two-time winner Brian Crisman.  This was Hartman’s first ever victory at the Bridgeport Speedway.  Brian Crisman came home in second followed by Terry Sammons, Ken Wallace and Warren Stradley.

Limited Sprint favorite, Tim Iulg hot lapped the Deerfield Auto Parts #8s on the 1/4 mile speedway in preparation for the ‘Great American 1/4 Mile Shootout’ on June 30, when both the 358 Small Blocks and Limited Sprints will compete on the smaller speedway.

Vivona Tops Wingless 600, Matney and Crisman Lead 270 and 4 Cylinder Action

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (May 5, 2006) – Rob Vivona dominated the 600cc Micro Sprint feature event on Friday Night at the Bridgeport Speedway.  Vivona overcame all odds, running without the huge wing that usually sits atop the Micro Sprints, and held off a hard charging Jessica Lindmeier to lead the entire 20 lap feature event.

“I could see her (Lindmeier’s) reflection off of the inside wall, I knew she was getting close,” Vivona stated in Victory Lane Ceremonies.

Vivona launched from the pole position of the event, with Lindmeier and Dave Graziano right in toe.  Graziano moved into the runner-up position before looping his bright yellow #53 machine and bringing out the first yellow of the event.  It was all Vivona at the re-start with Lindmeier slowly closing in.  Slicing and dicing for the top spot Lindmeier gave it all she had, and at times appeared to be faster then the leader.  Vivona would pick up his first victory of the season with Lindmeier settling for second, George Ulmer coming home third, last week’s winner Bill Thomas coming home fourth and Eddie Wagner rounding out the top five.

Some might now refer to 270cc Micro Sprint driver Don Matney as ‘Mr. May.’  Matney picked up his first Bridgeport victory last May on the 1/4 mile speedway, and grabbed win number two this past Friday Night.

“The track was really tacky and really fast,”  Matney explained.  “It made for some fun racing.”

It took several attempts to start the 270cc Micro Sprint Feature, and after a handful of yellow flags it finally got underway.  Matney blasted away from youngster Ryan Stillwagon on the start, but it wouldn’t be easy for Matney, the ultra-fast John Copeland shot into the second position and chased Matney for three laps until mechanical problems sidelined the #44 Machine.  Handing the runner-up spot over to Jeff Hartman, with Matney checking out on the field it was Hartman in a three car battle with Steve Gasapari and Shaun Ratchford for the runner-up spot, with the two leaving Hartman worse for wear.  Matney would go on to take the Victory followed by Steve Gasapari, Shaun Ratchford, Jeff Hartman and Dave Brown.

The rough and tough battle of the 4 Cylinder Stock cars continued this past Friday Night as Brian Crisman and Jim Hughes once again fought tooth and nail for the victory.  Hughes who picked up the victory last week after the two traded paint, was left in the runner-up spot this week.  Hughes maintained the lead to the white flag until Crisman’s front wheel drive Jetta made a bold move on the inside of Hughes exiting turn 2.  After exchanging paint in turns 3 and 4 it was Brian Crisman picking up the victory, his second of the year.  Jim Hughes came home in second, Warren Stradley maintained a healthy third, followed by Terry Sammons and Ian Wray.

A handful of Limited Sprint Cars were in attendance turning some practice laps on the 1/4 mile speedway for the upcoming ‘Great American 1/4 Mile Shootout on June 30 – where all of the events including the 358 Small Blocks and Sprint Cars will see action on the Bridgeport 1/4 Mile.  It should prove for some tight racing.

Friday, May 12 – The 600cc and 270cc Micro Sprints return to action along with the 4 Cylinder Stock Cars.  Gates open at 5:00; Warm-Ups are scheduled for 6:30 and the first green flag of the 2006 season drops at 7:00.  General Admission tickets are $10 and kids 12 & under are Free of charge

Thomas Takes 600’s, Hartman and Hartman Battle for Top 270 Spot and Martin Leads 4 Cylinders.

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (April 29, 2006) – For the second consecutive week the younger drivers of the 600cc Micro Sprint division have conquered their older counterparts, as twenty-year-old, Media, PA resident, Bill Thomas drove the Choice Sportscard #21 to his second victory on the Bridgeport Speedway quarter mile.

“Everything just kind of worked out for us,” Thomas explained during his victory lane celebration.  “DeVault got caught up in something and then Vivona spun.  It was just our night.”

Bob DeVault set the pace on the field and set a blistering early race pace, pulling almost a full straight-a-way on the second place car of Vivona, with Thomas and Gary Hunter running third and fourth.  It appeared to be all DeVault dominating from the second starting position until he made contact with a lapped car exiting turn two just before the halfway mark.  Leaving the early leader stopped on the inside of the speedway.  Vivona inherited the lead with Thomas in a close second, until Vivona’s car spun in turn 1 at the drop of the green flag, collecting a handful of competitors.

With Thomas inheriting the lead after Vivona’s misfortune, he launched off the start holding off a hard charge from last week’s feature winner, Robbie Stillwaggon and young hotshoe Chris Grosso.  Thomas would dominate the remainder of the event  picking up his second Bridgeport victory.  Stillwaggon and Grosso would hold on for second and third respectively followed by Gary Hunter and another young driver, Eddie Wagner.

Many would have believed it was déjŕ vu in the 270cc Micro Sprint Feature – and the ‘Hartman Boys’ once again put on an awesome spectacle of racing slicing and dicing for the top spot.  Only this time it was Jeff pulling off the victory over last week’s winner Jay Hartman.

“I had problems getting the car to run in warm-ups and the heat race and I wasn’t even sure it would make it through the feature,” Hartman joked.  “The car was just flawless, I didn’t think I’d get by him(Jay Hartman) unless he had a problem, and it just stuck on the outside.”

John Copeland set the early pace in the event followed by Matt Harrell and Jay Hartman.  Copeland would suffer problems just past the halfway mark.  Jeff Hartman battled from deep in the field to move inside Matt Harrell on lap 13.  With Jay Hartman setting a quick pace early on, Jeff battled and caught up to the Jay slipping past with two circuits remaining.  Jay Hartman came home second with Shaun Ratchford powering his way into third followed by Steve Gasapari and Joe Kay.

It was just one week ago that Fred Martin and Jim Hughes battled back in forth during green flag condition and under yellow flag conditions.  Hughes would be the apparent winner in this weeks 4-Cylinder feature event, after contact with Brian Crisman left Crisman’s machine worse for wear.  However, Hughes’ car was deemed illegal handing the victory over to #9 of Fred Martin.

Friday, May 5 – It’s Wild and Wingless for the 600cc Micro Sprints as all action in that division takes place minus the wings.  Also on the card the 270cc Micro Sprints and 4 Cylinder Stock Cars.  Gates open at 5:00; Warm-Ups are scheduled for 6:30 and the first green flag of the 2006 season drops at 7:00.  General Admission tickets are $10 and kids 12 & under are Free of charge
